UF Premed AMSA prides itself on buiilding a strong passion for future medical careers. Whatever your passion is: art, law, global issues, minority issues, women's issues- we've got it all. Take a moment to think about what you enjoy most, what moves you then look below to see which commitee corresponds to your passions. Listed below you will find our commitees as well as our interest groups.

Arts in Medicine

Art therapy has become an increasingly popular supplement to medical care. The Arts in Medicine committee explores this avenue of therapy through direct and indirect patient contact. This committee applies art therapy through crafts, music (instrumental and vocal), dancing, and theatre.

Complimentary & Alternative Medicine *New*

The Complimentary & Alternative Medicine committee is designed to supplement traditional medical education. This committee will explore those treatments and practices whose effectiveness is yet to be demonstrated scientifically but whose value is nonetheless important to those who practice it. The primary focus of this committee will be member growth, but will also include some community service.

Global Health

Global Health targets international health-related problems and proactively works toward solutions. Global Health serves internationally as medical relief in developing nations with significant need, and locally as a setting to advocate and forward global relief efforts.

Health Carreer Convention (Website)

The Health Career Convention is one of the three main forums organized annually by UF Premed AMSA. HCC is offered each spring to high school students throughout Florida as an opportunity to learn more about the medical field and career choices available. HCC members gain priceless leadership experience in addition to volunteering in the community.

Health Education

Health Education was designed to inform not only its members but the community at large about health awareness. Join to educate and be educated! This is done via CPR classes for members, school presentations, and volunteering at the Eastside Clinic in Gainesville.

Health Outreach

The Health Outreach committee offers opportunities for members to aid and support the community through hands-on medical experience. Some projects include: providing free blood glucose and blood pressure testing for students and faculty, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, and expanding premed influence in the community. The success of this committee lies in physical exertion of its members.

Health Policy

This committee addresses the political side of medicine. As a future doctor many of the bills being passed today will play a role in your career as well ashow you can treat a patient. The committee projects relate to pharmaceutical industry issues, access to healthcare, medical malpractice and foreign issues that affect our domestic health care system. Current health issues are discussed and debated within the members and community.

Medical College Forum (Website)

The Medical College Forum is one of UF Premed AMSA's longest running traditions. Each spring, medical school representatives from around the country gather to form one of Florida's largest medical school fairs. Here, premedical students are offered advice and information those medical school. Committee members gain experience in leadership and communication within the context of the medical school admissions process.

Medical Technology *New*

Technology influences every area of our lives and medicine is no exception. Anesthesiologists, radiologist, and surgeons all rely on technological advances to treat their patients. This committee explores the impact of such developments in medical realm and increases the availability for the community.

Minority Affairs (Website)

The Minority Affairs committee organized one of the newest conventions started by UF Premed AMSA, the Minorty Premedical Forum. This forum offers advice and support for minority premedical students to successfully enter medical school. The importance of this committee in evident through the growing diversity of the medical field.

Special Projects

The Special Projects committee organizes various events for the general public. Two of the main events this committtee coordinates is the Fall Festival for children with diabetes and golf tournament. This committee focuses mainly on community projects.

Women in Medicine

The Women in Medicine committee organizes Panel Discussions. Where women physicians and medical students provide answers to questions premedical students have about their experience in the medical field. This committee deals with women's health issues such as breast cancer, reproductive health, and women's rights around the world. The committee also addresses issues that women will face in the medical field.

Additional Services and Interest Groups:

Advising/Volunteering

UF Premed AMSA is dedicated to supporting students in their journey to become physicians. The advising director organizes a peer mentoring program to match freshmen and sophomores with upper-division students. We are also in the process of compiling a databank of professor and class evaluations to help students with scheduling.The volunteering director arranges unique volunteering opportunities available only to UF Premed AMSA members such as the ER, OR, and ICU at the VA Hospital. Links to national AMSA are also available.

Equal Access Support Committee (Website)

The Equal Access Support Committee offers a unique volunteering experience for AMSA members who have demonstrated responsibility and dedication within AMSA for at least one semester. This committee works in conjunction with the UF medical students to support and run a free health and dental clinic for the less fortunate of Gainesville. Committee members complete all patient intake, including taking medical history and vital signs. The Equal Access Support Committee also takes the responsiblity of financially supporting the clinic, namely through the annual Equal Access 5K Run. A separate application is available at the beginning of each semester for those interested.

Financial Affairs

UF Premed AMSA prides itself on the quality of the programs it offers. The financial directors organize events and fundraisers to ensure that we can continue to expand the services provided. Please contact these directors with any questions or ideas you have concerning fundraising opportunities

Media/Webmaster

These directors will be working on the website, scrapbook, life lines, and advertisement. Computer skills or photography skills are highly recommended. If you have any AMSA pictures to share, contact these directors.

Social Affairs

The Social Directors organize all social events for the members of UF Premed AMSA. Any ideas or suggestions for a social event should be directed to these directors.
