What is PDC?

PDC stands for the Premedical Diversity Committee, our local reimaging for what is known as the Minority Affairs Committee (MAC) nationally. Nationally, MAC is a subcommittee under the advocacy committee within the American Medical Student Association (AMSA). This committee has been running under AMSA nationally for many years now, but it was not until Spring of 2001 that UF's chapter of Premed AMSA decided to add it to our list of committees, and not until 2011 that UF's chapter changed it to the Premedical Diversity Committee. UF Premed AMSA decided to integrate such a committee into our organization mainly for three reasons:
  1. To help increase diversity in our organization by creating a committee that would be committed to recruit more minority premed students into our organization
  2. To help illuminate the specific health issues that are of concern to minority populations in America
  3. To help raise awareness of the need for more minority physicians as well as an increased sensitivity to needs of minority communities.
