If you become a member of EASC, we do not require you to attend clinic over summer if you will not be in Gainesville. However, upon being accepted, you are a member of clinic until you graduate. You will be expected to fulfill your duties as a clinic member and remain in good standing with AMSA for the duration of your time in the EASC.
A day in the life of EASC
When your first arrive, sharply at 5:00pm, your job will be to aid in common clinical setup which includes: taking patient intake, pulling patient charts, hanging room numbers, making copies when needed, updating patient folders, gathering needed medical tools, practicing and refreshing vital skills, and receiving updates/changes in clinic procedures. When the day clinic (Family practice medical group) finishes their after hour duties and the security guard arrives, clinic is open! You will sign in your patient and take them back to a room to start/update their chart (general/medical history information). You will proceed to take vitals, obtain an informative chief complaint, and discretely complete an HIV test if the patient is interested in such. If the patient is diagnostically diabetic, you will take blood glucose. If the patient is interested in other special services we offer that day, you will hand their chart over per specific instructions. Once all patients have been seen for the night and with advanced notice, you have the option to shadow medical students, residents and attending physicians during follow-up interviews and for any other small procedures that might be preformed that night. Your night at clinic on Thursdays can range from 5pm-7pm or from 5pm-10pm depending on the number of patients we can take that day and the opportunities you take part in once you have completed your required clinic duties.
